The State Highway Commission removed W H Johnson as district supervisor and named Frank Burnside of El Dorado to lead the Hope district. The move ends Camden district and adds three counties, reducing district offices from ten.

In Fort Worth Texas Sheriff Red Wright and Jailer Paul Witherspoon captured a so called Limping Bandit. They pried open the suspect’s wooden leg for hidden saws but found none and returned the limb to the annoyed thief.
A landing field is being conditioned at Ixtlan del Rio Nayarit on the west coast of Mexico with town people and federal soldiers assisting. When finished the field will serve both military and commercial planes with costs shared by state and federal governments.
The State Highway Commission and Highway Director Rhyne reduced the district count from ten to seven and called in district engineer heads for a conference set for Tuesday, March 28 in Little Rock.
The Arkansas State Highway Commission reorganized maintenance in the Hope district transferring posts among Camden Forrest City Wynne and Arkadelphia. Johnson was briefly restored, then replaced by Burnside with Colvin as assistant. New counties added to the Hope district include Union Columbia and Ouachita. Governor Futrell supported keeping maintenance moving while protests continued.
The Moonshiners, Columbus blackface comedians, perform in Columbus high school auditorium at 8 o clock Friday night March 24. The show aims to lift the mood with laughs at a New Deal style entertainment and benefits the Columbus junior basketball team.
Washington bulletin notes Kendrick believes Mrs. Nellie Tayloe Ross may be named treasurer. In Harrisburg Governor Pinchot urges mortgage holders to suspend foreclosures and asks courts to discourage executions.
The Reichstag voted with the Social Democrats alone opposing to empower Hitler for four years of dictatorial authority. Chancellor Hitler outlined plans to annihilate communism as a domestic matter and pledged disarmament only if the world reduces forces.
Baseball opens Sunday at Fair Park with Hope Storks facing the Texarkana Transporters. Storks showcase an all star lineup led by Ralph Fate and Ted Womble pitching with John Sparks catching. Transporters, led by manager L Henne, bring Chester Gordon Fuzzy Sullivan Bob Shelton and Kearns Howard after three weeks of training.
Miss Mildred Pace, born in Stoneham, had two starts at the New England Sanitarium and Hospital. She recently returned to marry Franklyn Wendell of Marlboro, with Dr. Wells A. Rubin officiating.
The city council reduced salaries for the city clerk from 75 to 60 dollars a month the treasurer from 60 to 50 and the municipal judge from 1590 a year to 1200 with the city paying half. The mayor had already been cut to 75. A mosquito drive will be directed by a 50 dollar a month hire starting April 1 and an ordinance requires removal of dilapidated unsanitary or unsafe buildings within city limits.

In Hope voters will decide on Act No. 28 at the general election on April 4. The act requires a three member civil service board for police and fire departments in first class cities, with commissioners serving without pay, and allows suspension of the act if a petition is signed and submitted within 90 days. The Star prints the first of 20 sections outlining the act.
Charles Williams, named as one of three holdup men in the First National bank robbery on February 23, is a fugitive from Mississippi. He escaped October 5 and is jailed in Texarkana awaiting Hempstead county grand jury action after fingerprints linked him to the alias Carrol White used while serving five years for highway robbery.
The world famous M. D. Slaviansky Russian chorus will give a concert at city hall on Wednesday March 29 under the Friday Music Club. The chorus on its second trans continental tour follows triumphs in New York including Carnegie Hall concerts for Morris Gest's Passion Play and Miracle Play after 15 capacity shows.
Washington reports that several banks in Arkansas including three of Little Rock's four banks plan to merge into a new institution with Reconstruction Finance Corpora tion aid. The agency may buy preferred stock under the emergency banking act to provide capital for reopening.
Marion Wasson Arkansas state bank commissioner announced plans to create a new bank to absorb assets and liabilities of Bankers Trust Union Trust and Peoples Trust. W. B. Worthen Company not named but intends to resume business after Treasury license. Deposits to be paid 75 percent now with 25 percent under liquidation. DFA reforms noted for J. C. Wilson of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation.
New York stocks rose as much as 1 to 4 dollars a share in early trading ending a five day drop. Rail stocks stayed strong and overall markets held much of the gains though some retreat by midday. Separately the Roosevelt farm bill moved to the agriculture committee in Washington and jobless aid programs outlined in the labor push.
Magnolia A&M College opens a six week summer session on May 29 with options to earn up to six semester hours from the North Central Association list. No tuition, a $5 summer school fee, and dormitory meals priced at $25. Graduation rites omit caps and gowns this year, offering a certificate in place of a diploma unless students request a diploma.
