The rain potential and cooler air mark the start of spring as a weather system sweeps in. Temperatures Tuesday rise into the 60s in southern areas with highs today in the 50s to 60s and Thursday forecast in the 50s.

Maurice Kelleg professional artist of Little Rock spoke to the Hope Kiwanis Club. The program was arranged by Crit Stuart Jr. and introduced by Mrs. Royce Weisenberger of the Third District Arts and Crafts Club. Weisenberger noted the Arts and Crafts Club grew from four to twenty five members in four years and drew over eight thousand visitors at a recent livestock show booth. Kelleg, now in Arkansas since 1967, said about 200 artists live by painting and emphasized realism over modern trends and photography. Kiwanian Jon Leim announced an Easter Seal benefit basketball game at the High School Gym Friday. Tickets for the 31st Kiwanis Show were distributed to members. Guests included Rosboro Bemis, Mrs. Chas. A. Haynes, Thurston Hulsey, Bill Etter, Mrs. Abbie Breeding, Mrs. B. W. Edwards, Mrs. Royce Weisenberger, and James Pilkinton. Birthday honorees were Garland Smith and Mike Murphy.
The Pentecostal Church of God on North Sherman Street marks its 5th anniversary with all day services on Sunday March 24. Elder A Hawthorne of Nashville preaches at 2 00 p.m. Elder Jesse Graves is pastor. The Youth department of Haynes Chapel Baptist plans a program March 23 at 7 p.m. Pastor Rev David Melton will speak and refreshments follow. Larry Harris youth president. The Second Quarterly Conference at Bethel AME on Sunday March 24 includes Rev W C Montague preaching at 11 a.m. worship with a business session Sunday night. Rev W G Wynn is pastor.
Haskell Jones presented color slides of the Austrian Tyrol during a Lions luncheon, highlighting views of streams, mountains, castles and villages from the upcoming May 22 to May 30 Alpine Adventure tour to Germany and Austria priced at $499 per person. Program chairman Charles Jester organized the event and club business included new member Bennett Wood’s induction and interclub visit plans. Max Kase, 75, longtime sports editor, died of a heart attack in Yonkers. Bruce Marsh, 48, a renowned Canadian broadcaster, died awaiting heart donor at Stanford Hospital.
The Phi Beta Lambda Club of Red River Vocational Technical School sponsors a Walk-A Thon starting at 8 a.m. Saturday March 23 at Village Shopping Center. Registration runs 7:00 to 7:59. Walk cards are stamped at eight checkpoints for sponsor pledges with food and water at each stop. Local businesses donated supplies including D and W Packing Texarkana Southwest Frozen Foods Howard s Discount Midwest Farms Alice Walters Rephan s Safeway and Kroger. Registration forms are available at local schools and Red River Vocational Technical School.
Randolph A Hearst laments court ruling that prevents two accused SLA members Joseph Remiro and Russell Little from reading a televised statement they say could aid Patricia Hearst's case. Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge Sam Hall said the appearance could prejudice a fair trial. The SLA claims to have kidnapped Patricia Hearst on February 4 and has warned of cutting family contact if the men appear on national TV.
About $2,246 worth of gasoline and construction tools were stolen from the new women's reformatory site west of Pine Bluff Arkansas. Investigators believe a pickup truck hauled the loot. Howard Smith said the burglary was found Tuesday morning as workers arrived. Tools and equipment were taken from a tool shed and about 475 gallons of gasoline were removed from a storage tank. Several barrels of diesel were emptied and then gasoline hauled away.

Smith cited international Jewish influence and alleged funding to defeat Fulbright, while Gov. Dale Bumpers denied seeking Jewish campaign money. Smith values Fulbright's stance on Israel following the October War.
