Arkansas faced extreme cold with overnight lows in the low teens across North Arkansas. Beaver reported 12 degrees while Mountain Home, Harrison and Gilbert logged 13 degrees as a cold front lingered. Forecasters predicted continued chill through Saturday as spring nears and skies clear.

About half of Collinwood High School 3400 pupils returned to classes under nearly 200 police, including mounted units, after Thursday clashes between white and Negro students. Seven youths were arrested and weapons seized as officers dispersed a 100-strong crowd. Principal John Lee praised orderly entry amid tensions in a racially sensitive Cleveland area.
Hope High School Home Economics girls will contact stores and residents on Saturday March 20 to promote Egg Week. They will distribute hard boiled eggs to purchasers of Omelet Day tickets on March 25 and invite advance ticket holders to enjoy omelets prepared by Home Demonstration club members.

A new booklet Answers to a Woman's Questions about Social Security is now available at the Texarkana social security district office. Otis A. Blackwood, district manager, announced. It covers whether a working woman can collect both retirement and wife benefits and other wife and child benefit rules. The last full day of winter brought deadly weather from Montana to the Deep South. A midwest blizzard dropped four feet of snow with drifts up to 25 feet while Arctic air pushed into the northern plains. Violent storms killed eight, closed hundreds of schools, and left roads blocked as spring neared.

Mrs. Lee Orsborn aged 78 died in a house fire at Okolona last night. Her husband escaped with minor burns. She leaves two sisters Mrs. Marshall Scott and Mrs. Scott Sr. of McCaskill and an aunt Mrs. Sally Andrews of Oakhaven.
Senator J William Fulbright urges amending the education bill to grant federal funds for Southern college faculty to obtain advanced degrees. He notes only 43 percent of Southern faculty hold doctorates versus 51 percent nationally, with only 28 percent of Negro school professors Doctorates.
Gov. Orval E Faubus said he cannot attend a White House dinner and briefing for governors because he will help dedicate the Ouachita Job Corps Conservation Center near Hot Springs Arkansas. The president invited the governors to the event.
President Johnson pledged federal aid and could mobilize the Alabama National Guard to protect the Selma to Montgomery civil rights march. He noted Governor Wallace’s force of 10,000 Guardsmen and contrasted federal plans with Wallace’s requested federal help. Also: violence at Cleveland Collinwood High, a Long Island Rail Road incident, and Senate move toward voting rights legislation with a 67 to 13 vote.

More than 110 U S Navy and Air Force planes hit targets around Phu Van Vinh Son and Thu An about 160 miles north of the 17th parallel. Officials reported up to 100 percent destruction with several secondary explosions and light ground fire.
