Farmington, N.Y. AP reports Fairchild Hiller’s federal funded supersafe car project. Low Front Moving Into Arkansas Weather Update

The Associated Press reports a low front moving through Arkansas will trigger showers and thundershowers with cooler temperatures. After passage, skies clear but temperatures stay cooler with highs in the 50s to 60s and lows in the 30s to 40s through Monday. Wednesday highs ranged from 61 at Jonesboro to 73 at Texarkana.

Hope water grant approved for regional planning

Rep. Hammerschmidt said the Economic Development Administration approved a 171 860 three year grant for water quality management planning in Benton and Washington counties and parts of Yell and Madison counties. The grant goes to the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission in Springdale.

Art Center Grant Is Defeated

Senate defeated a Joint Budget Committee bill to provide a $60,000 state revenue grant to the Arkansas Arts Center. Sen. Max Howell supported the measure to fund an art program beyond Little Rock, while Sen. Robert Harvey opposed, noting the center is not a state agency and recalling past debates over similar appropriations.

Arkla Denies Return Rate Is Unfair

Kroger Names Stewart Long Arkansas Retail Vice President

Stewart W. Long formerly vice president produce merchandising at Kroger in Cincinnati has been named vice president of Kroger's Arkansas retail division. He will oversee 47 supermarkets in Arkansas and Texas from the North Little Rock division headquarters at 1302 Pike Avenue. Long began with Kroger in 1946 in Memphis as a meat cutter and rose through produce merchandising to the general office.
