Antoinette Slovik, widow of Pvt. Eddie Slovik the only American soldier executed for desertion in WWII, lives under a false name in Detroit. The 60 year old recalls a tumultuous life shadowed by the 1945 execution, as NBC plans a film based on William Bradford Huie’s book detailing Slovik’s path from deferments to an anonymous grave in France.

Washington AP reports Agriculture Department economists said broiler prices rose to 23.9 cents per pound in 1973 from 14.1 in 1972, yielding nearly 2.6 billion dollars from 2.9 billion birds.
