The Associated Press reports continued fair weather for Arkansas into the weekend. The National Weather Service warns of mostly clear skies tonight and Wednesday with no precipitation through Wednesday and an extended outlook confirming continued pleasant conditions.

Antoinette Slovik, widow of Pvt. Eddie Slovik the only American soldier executed for desertion in WWII, lives under a false name in Detroit. The 60 year old recalls a tumultuous life shadowed by the 1945 execution, as NBC plans a film based on William Bradford Huie’s book detailing Slovik’s path from deferments to an anonymous grave in France.
Outstanding citizens are celebrated at a Chamber banquet with awards to Dr. Strong, Hope’s Best Citizen of 1973, and Mr. Rutherford recognized for community service. Strong serves as mayor and has a history in city government and youth programs, while Rutherford contributes as a deacon, banker, and civic leader in Magnolia.
Washington AP reports Agriculture Department economists said broiler prices rose to 23.9 cents per pound in 1973 from 14.1 in 1972, yielding nearly 2.6 billion dollars from 2.9 billion birds. Turkey growers earned 934 million on 132 million birds at 38.2 cents per pound, up from 539 million and 115.8 million birds in 1972. Metal cooking pans should not be used in microwave ovens.

Gov Dale Bumpers told a Harrison crowd that a crippled and dismayed presidency and a Congress lacking leadership have eroded confidence in government. The Arkansas Democrat spoke during his fourth regional tour aimed at bringing government to the people and voiced concerns about Washington's atmosphere of apprehension and instability.
