Youth Acquitted in Sniper Shooting Held in Slaying of Two
ROCKFORD Nl AP A youth acquitted in the sniper shooting of another Rockford teenager was held today on murder charges in the execution style slaying of two 14 year old cousins Ronald Johnson and Wayne Mullendere. Police said John Wesley Williams Jr 17 was arrested at his job and charged after a police search recovered a .22 rifle with telescope sight and homemade silencer. A state crime lab will test bullets fired into the victims. Williams had previously been acquitted of the earlier shooting of Nick Licari 15. He is jailed in Winnebago County awaiting a preliminary hearing set for Wednesday. The slayings occurred at Levings Park and the victims were buried in Willwood Cemetery.
