Drought since 1976 reduced water in wetlands, with 3 to 3 percent lower duck populations in most areas, while some northern regions saw increases as ducks moved to wetter sites. Further survey results due mid June will clarify overall spring populations.

Golf pro Jay Hebert will visit Monroe on July 5 to help open the second Olinkraft Junior Invitational Golf Tournament set for July 6–8 at Chennault Park. Hebert will lead a golf clinic for 1125 Ark La Miss junior golfers ages 15 to 17 registered for the event.
The event features driving putting and closest to the hole contests plus standard 54 hole play. Championship flight winner earns $200 in golf merchandise a trophy and a blue jacket. Prizes for top finishers in all flights. USGA rules apply. Olindraft is a forest products company based in West Monroe.
