Good Phone Etiquette Clinic At Hope Lions Meet

Mrs Betty Wacaster Bell Telephone Co supervisor led a Monday luncheon program for the Hope Lions at the Sheraton. The focus was practical good telephone manners and preventing miscommunications from talking on a handset. A lighthearted movie illustrated how careless phone use can strain friendships and work ties, with Bell services highlighted for prevention. A tribute letter honored Lion Paul Rawson and noted forthcoming International Convention honors. Miss Joyce Hirobayashi sent thanks for Girls State sponsorship. Various guests and hosts were acknowledged.

Arkansas Power & Light Co says uranium fuel costs for its nuclear plants rose by about 4.9 million dollars, lifting expected expenses for fiscal 1976 and signaling higher electric rates. A company spokesman could not yet specify the final rate increase pending ongoing discussions.

House OKs 3.9 Billion for Energy Development

The House approved 3.9 billion dollars for the Energy Research and Development Administration including funds for the liquid metal fast breeder reactor program at Clinch River near Oak Ridge Tennessee. The measure covers 15 months through October 1976 and allocates 226.1 million for the base LMFER program 24.6 million for Clinch River and 43.4 million for program safety with other funds for technology and fuel. The Appropriations Committee backs LMFER development as a key future energy source noting global progress and potential commercialization in the 1990s and cites energy shortages.

Vietnamese Refugees Weigh Return Home From Pendleton

More than 2000 South Vietnamese refugees in Camp Pendleton weigh returning to a homeland under new communist rule. Arthur Formby dies at 79 in Springhill parish

Former Patmos resident Arthur Formby died Tuesday at Springhill Louisiana at age 79. He was a Church of Christ member and Mason. Survived by wife Ruby three sons Carrol Kenneth Roy all of Springhill one brother Elias Formby of Patmos five grandchildren four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral set for 10 a.m. Thursday in Springhill.

Judge halts herbicide program in Ozark National Forest

Federal Judge G Thomas Fisele ordered the National Forest Service to stop the herbicide program in the Ozark St Francis National Forest until an environmental impact statement is filed or the suit is litigated. The suit by Newton County Wildlife Association argues required NEPA review is missing. The government contends NEPA may not apply but acknowledges a draft impact statement exists with a final due by September.

Secret ballot ruling in Crawfordsville school vote dispute

In Crawfordsville, Circuit Judge Gerald Pearson ordered disclosure of votes from challenged voters in a school board race between Farrington Snipes and Rolly Moore. Several voters refused to reveal their choices, with the court upholding the sacredness of the secret ballot except where legality is questioned.

Injured stewardess describes jet crash

Mary Mooney, a 28 year old Eastern stewardess, described the jet crash to hospital staff after the Eastern Air Lines flight killed more than 100 people. She and fellow steward Robert Hoefler survived, both badly burned and injured, while off duty Nassau officer Paul Moran helped evacuate them. The disaster left a mosaic of critical injuries, with Tina DiSpenza the most gravely hurt among four transported to Jacobi burn unit.
