Last Great Log Drive Down Clearwater to Lewiston
The article celebrates logging courage on the Clearwater river in northern Idaho as 35 million board feet of logs were moved to Lewiston by Potlatch Forests Inc. A 434 man crew ferried logs with pewees and pike poles, towing a Wannigan cook raft. The annual drive began with spring runoff and will soon end as logs shift to a tunnel and then trucks due to Dworshak dam construction. Paul Bunyan is invoked as a mythical measure of logging grit.
