Allied forces seize Elba as German troops evacuate Pianosa and Elba area
In a coordinated Anglo American push, German troops retreat from Pianosa and the Elba region while the Eighth Army advances northeast of Perugia toward Nocera Umbra and Camerino. British troops reach near Magione as heavy fighting persists around Lake Trasimeno with German resistance on the lake’s west and southwest shores. Villa Strada and San Futuchio towns fall after combat as Germans infiltrate Chiusi further southwest.
