Three Girl Scouts Murdered at Camp Scott Oklahoma

At Camp Scott near Locust Grove in Mayes County Oklahoma three Girl Scouts ages 8 9 and 10 were found beaten to death in their sleeping bags during a week long camp. Authorities said the deaths were from beating with no weapon identified and that investigators from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the State Bureau of Investigation were handling the case. About 100 girls and 30 staff members were present at the camp operated by the Magic Empire Council of Girl Scouts which has run since 1928.

Conviction Upheld in Loomis Rape Burglary Case

The Arkansas Supreme Court upholds Phillip Wayne Loomis of Fort Smith in a five to two ruling. Loomis receives life plus a 15 thousand dollar fine for rape and 20 years for burglary stemming from an attack on March 3, 1976 in Sebastian County. He argued that police evidence including his statement and fingerprint match should have been excluded due to lack of counsel. The majority ruled his statements were voluntary and made after he refused attorney help.

Hope Star Sues Hope School District Over FOI Act

Ray Is Captured On Brushy Mountain Escape Case

James Earl Ray was tracked to Brushy Mountain Tennessee by dogs Sandy and Little Red after a 54 hour flight. He was found in a leaf pile and returned to the prison, ending the breakout that included six inmates and left one still at large.

Terri Edwards crowned 1977 Poultry Princess at Hot Springs banquet

Terri Edwards, a 21 year old Arkansas State University student from Judsonia, won the 1977 Poultry Princess title at the 18th annual Poultry Coronation Banquet in Hot Springs. She defeated eleven contestants, earning a $1,000 prize and a trophy. First runner up Vicki Tipton and second runner up Laura Buczkowski also won cash prizes.
