Morton Returns to Dominate Expos in 3-2 Braves Victory
Atlanta right hander Carl Morton, back in Montreal, limited the Expos to three singles over six innings as the Braves rallied for two runs in the seventh to win 3-2. Morton, traded from Montreal in spring training, said little about any animosity toward his former club. Other NL games saw the Dodgers blank the Cubs 4-0 and the Padres edge the Cardinals 4-3. In the AL, the Angels beat the Tigers 3-0, the White Sox defeated the Orioles 3-2, and the Rangers topped the Yankees 7-5 with Messersmith pitching a three-hitter and Willie Davis homering twice. Nolan Ryan held Detroit to five hits as the Angels won. Alex Johnson drove in the tie-breaking run in the eighth for Texas against New York, erasing a 5-0 deficit.
