In a street confrontation Ned Will O asks about a radio station debut and a career change. The writer credits two Americans orbiting Earth for four days and praises television and radio for instant reporting while noting newspapers provide documentary records.
The City Board approved an agreement with Pulaski County to house prisoners at the county penal farm at 1.00 per day for board and 1.00 per day to work off fines. The plan includes annexation of Dr. Sam Strong's subdivision. The board also discussed Hempstead County Library expansion seeking 20000 dollars, 40 percent city share, 60 percent federal funds, and approved waiving some volunteer firefighter absences to enhance department operations.
The report covers a 24 hour period ending 7 a m Tuesday with high 86 and low 68. Central Arkansas expected partly to mostly cloudy through Wednesday with tonight lows near 70 and Wednesday highs in the upper 80s. Sen J William Fulbright urges Treasury official to press France to settle its 6.5 million World War I debt to the United States. He proposes a congressional resolution and notes a potential legal link to France's claims on U S gold. Senator Aiken supports pursuing the demand even if it gains little.
Ernest Shutes aged 21 of El Dorado was charged with first degree serious case for injuring Billy Ray Moore 22 at a cafe just outside El Dorado. Authorities say Moore was hurt with a sharp object during Sunday night contest. Both men are Black.
Jim Atkins of 909 E Division St won The Star Letters to the Editor prize of 10 for the best published letter in May. His piece on Signs of the Times appeared in The Star May 24. Hope Star also awards a monthly 10 check for best local letter, a program to continue indefinitely.
Lt. George M. Sheldon of Olympia Washington serves as chaplain for Mobile Construction Battalion 10 in Chu Lai Vietnam. A former naval flier with 71 Korea missions and five Air Medals plus the Distinguished Flying Cross, he now holds six weekly services and counsels Marines and Seabees alike while guiding an orphanage project and aid programs.
Gov. Orval Faubus said he told a Senate House conference committee what he would accept in shaping a 14.8 million highway tax plan. The panel, formed to resolve House Senate differences, eyed a 1.5 to 2 million revenue reduction. The Senate cut license fees for trucks and diesel fuel tax increases. Faubus favored the Senate position and expected further agreement on truck fees.
In St. Petersburg Florida Maj General Edward H White says he would like to join his astronaut son on a future mission to the moon noting he is too old. He recalls Ed II’s globe spanning flight and believes his son will reach bigger milestones ahead.
Moscow reports Luna 6, an automatic uncrewed spacecraft, launched toward the moon as Russia resumes a second soft landing attempt within a month after Luna 5 crash and Gemini 4 return. Tass noted the craft as an automatic station.
James H. Jones announces Friday registration for Head Start pre school for children entering school next September. Eligibility includes six by October 1, 1965 and no prior kindergarten experience. Registration at Fulton Hopewell Paisley Shover Street determines class numbers and teachers. classes run 8 to 11:30 a.m. weekdays from June 21 to July 30.
The McCaskill RCI hosts a Safe Driving program at the Community Center on Friday June 11. State Patrol Sgt. File from Little Rock with Sgt. Guy Downing and Sheriff Jimmie Griffin will show a film and lecture on highway accidents. Mrs. Arthur Wimmell urges community attendance. a $2 prize for best original safety slogan requires present participation.
Houston reports color footage of Edward White on Gemini 4 showing his space walk. The film from June 3 highlights White’s jet-like propulsion with a space gun and the golden lifeline, as Earth appears as a blue-green globe beneath. Continued on Page Two.

In Jackson Michigan AP reports excited plans for astronaut James McDivitt and his Gemini 4 crewmate Edward White II. McDivitts consider traveling to Houston to join him with a possible Wednesday departure and a weekend ranch visit invitation from President Johnson.
The Arkansas Public Service Commission approved the sale of the Canovas telephone properties in Winslow and Mountainburg to United States Telephone Co for 105000 dollars. United plans to install dial service in both Northwest Arkansas towns.

More than 7,000 Arkansas and Louisiana guardsmen of the 39th Infantry Division arrive at Fort Chaffee for a two week annual summer exercise. Company B 72 from Texarkana Hope units checks into barracks as trucks unload and bivouac begins Monday. The training combines a week in the field with a week in cantonment, concluding June 19.
