Warmer Weather Arrives Across Arkansas

Supreme Court rejects rehearing in Cooper case

LITTLE ROCK The state Supreme Court today refused to rehear its ruling that a state law barring Dr. Grant Cooper from employment at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was too broad. The decision followed a suit filed by 23 legislators and after Rep. Bobby Glover of Carlisle urged another review.

Mike Kelly told the Hope Rotary Club that downtown Hope streets and Urban Renewal construction should wrap up by August in time for Centennial Celebration events. He noted 190 public housing units, 44 elderly applicants on the waiting list, and 41 seeking one-bedroom units, with 1974 described as the best year for the housing authority.

Tenacious Miami Beach family saves 15 ducklings

MIAMI BEACH AP Fifteen ducklings were returned to their mothers after a family rescued them from would be pet owners. Bunny Sands and her children Karen and Brian found ducklings taken from a pond on a local golf course during after dark thefts. Police could not pursue, so the Sands conducted a house by house search, recovering nine in the process and vowing the ducks were not belonging to residents.

Jury selection starts in Marshall in a three count bribery conspiracy trial involving eight men led by Harrison County Commissioner C T Craver. Co defendants include Fred Metcalf Morgan Doolittle Clyde Presgrove Enos Burt John Springs and Ralph Holland. They are linked to American United Products Corp Natchez and AVMs Texas distributor. Doolittle allegedly mailed a $4556 check to solicit votes to buy AVM voting machines in Harrison County.
