The Associated Press reports warmer weather moving into Arkansas after a cool weekend. A warming trend begins today with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s, rising to the 80s Tuesday and 76 to 82 Sunday in various regions.
A surface trough brings a dry start across northern Arkansas with limited cloudiness and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the north. Winds shift west to southwest, temperatures rise toward week’s end, and showers return Friday. NOAA notes June will be cool and wet, with below normal highs and above normal precipitation. Local lows span 58 to 62 degrees, with rainfall reports and station data detailed.
LITTLE ROCK The state Supreme Court today refused to rehear its ruling that a state law barring Dr. Grant Cooper from employment at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was too broad. The decision followed a suit filed by 23 legislators and after Rep. Bobby Glover of Carlisle urged another review.
Perrytown city hall hosts a four day introductory firemanship course starting Monday at 7 30 p m. The State Game and Fish Commission will meet June 16 and 17 at Texarkana beginning at 9 a m each day with agenda requests to Andrew Hulsey No 2 Capitol Mall Little Rock 72201.
Mike Kelly told the Hope Rotary Club that downtown Hope streets and Urban Renewal construction should wrap up by August in time for Centennial Celebration events. He noted 190 public housing units, 44 elderly applicants on the waiting list, and 41 seeking one-bedroom units, with 1974 described as the best year for the housing authority.
MIAMI BEACH AP Fifteen ducklings were returned to their mothers after a family rescued them from would be pet owners. Bunny Sands and her children Karen and Brian found ducklings taken from a pond on a local golf course during after dark thefts. Police could not pursue, so the Sands conducted a house by house search, recovering nine in the process and vowing the ducks were not belonging to residents.
Jury selection starts in Marshall in a three count bribery conspiracy trial involving eight men led by Harrison County Commissioner C T Craver. Co defendants include Fred Metcalf Morgan Doolittle Clyde Presgrove Enos Burt John Springs and Ralph Holland. They are linked to American United Products Corp Natchez and AVMs Texas distributor. Doolittle allegedly mailed a $4556 check to solicit votes to buy AVM voting machines in Harrison County.
Jeon Jaworski the former Watergate prosecutor and ex president of the American Bar Association will headline the Arkansas Bar Association’s 77th annual meeting in Hot Springs Ark running Wednesday through Friday. He will address the general assembly at 2 pm Thursday.
