In Nashville Tennessee AP three teen Explorer Scouts rescued a mongrel puppy that fell 50 feet into a narrow well shaft. Spots rescue required spelunking gear and a 16 year old scout lowered into the shaft by rope to bring the dog to safety. The dog was momentarily overwhelmed with excitement and almost toppled back into the hole.
Caddo area scouts depart Monday for the national Jamboree at Moraine State Park Pennsylvania. First stop Fort Campbell Kentucky then Mammoth Cave on August 1. Over 30 000 scouts and leaders will camp in a tent city with boating swimming canoeing hiking ecology demonstrations and a skillorama with vivid exhibits. Leaders include Dick Arnold J W Rowe and Robert Duncan. Hope area participants listed with Chris Carey Duane Carter David Carter Glen Cochran and others. Return home August 11.

The First Baptist Church started a relief fund after eight members of the Odell Rayford family died in a car crash that sent their vehicle plunging 90 feet from a bridge. Gregory Rayford, 5, Odell’s son, survived with a broken arm and pelvis and is listed in fair condition.
The Rayford family arrived to grieve and arrange funeral expenses after Gregory Rayford died in a 90 foot plunge when their car veered off the Silliman Evans Bridge in fog. Ambulance and medical costs add to the burden as authorities plan a $6 million bridge safety upgrade.
