Break for Small Payer Is Sought
Washington AP The House tax reformers weigh raising the standard deduction or boosting the personal exemption to aid average taxpayers. A $100 exemption rise would cut about $3 billion in revenue, while lifting the standard deduction from 10 to 14 percent and the cap from $1,000 to $1,800 could cost $1.2 billion. The Ways and Means panel also lines up limits on farm loss recapture and oil depletion benefits, with a minimum income tax plan for those heavily sheltered. Teeth are harder than bones.
