West Memphis City approves utility raises after wage dispute

West Memphis Mayor Tildon Rogers announced a pay increase for the West Memphis Utility Department workers. The raises total 23800 dollars, excluding fringe benefits, and align salaries with or above the Arkansas Power and Light scale. Final council action is set for August 9.

Robbery at McClellan aide's Senate office

Washington AP report states Jeannine Ragland the personal secretary to Sen John L McClellan was tied up with a telephone cord and robbed at gunpoint in the New Senate Office Building Two men entered the room demanded money and fled after taking 10 from her wallet The incident adds to a pattern of criminal activity reported around Capitol Hill with mentions of past bombings rapes and robberies near the Senate building by McClellan who condemned the ongoing crime wave.

Extradition Papers Are Sent To Arkansas For Graham

Extradition papers to extradite Daniel Lon Graham from Michigan to Arkansas on an escape charge were mailed to Governor Milliken in Lansing. Graham, 31, escaped May 31 from Cummins Prison Farm while serving a life term for the 1969 abduction of a banker's wife at DeValls Bluff. Springdale authorities seek to question him regarding a June 18 supermarket robbery in which two employees were killed and one wounded. He was arrested this month in Judington, Michigan.
