Shreveport Woman Translates For Deaf Through Church Program
Nancy Dixon a Gas Operations secretary in Shreveport and her husband Joe lead a long running sign language program at First Baptist Church SHreveport for 27 deaf members aged 10 to 78. They host Sunday services in sign language and sing hymns, with Nancy occasionally interpreting sermons in the big church. The couple recently completed a sign language seminar and plan ongoing weekly sessions and a monthly deaf night social. They aim to develop a daily sign language news brief for local TV. Their children, ages 9 and 10, are also learning sign language alongside their parents.
