Arkansas will see unchanged weather for several days with hazy warm and humid conditions across the state and much of the southern United States. A massive high pressure system stagnates over the eastern half of the country keeping skies likely dry and temperatures elevated.

The border between the United States and Canada arose from at least seven treaties. Negotiators who signed the 1782 Treaty of Paris relied on an earlier map, drawn 27 years before, shaping the boundary. Inaccuracies on that map prompted boundary questions unresolved until the 1925 Treaty.
A weather reporting station atop Rich Mountain near Fort Smith Arkansas receives approval from the FAA and the National Weather Service. A female voice warning pilots about the mountain’s 2600 foot elevation will also be installed. The system aims to reduce Polk County air crashes, seven deaths in 23 crashes since 1968, by relaying weather and visibility data nationwide. The idea arose from a local Chamber of Commerce meeting and, officials say, the voice and warnings stand out to pilots.

In northeast San Antonio a gunman killed a patrolman and engaged police in a hours long siege. After tear gas, blackouts, and an armored car raid, Robert L. Keck was found dead from a personal safety related gunshot wound. Officer James Anderson died from his injuries.
The son of actor Dan Dailey, Daniel J. Dailey III, 27, went to a hospital seeking directions to an emergency facility, then shot himself in the mouth on the front lawn of St. John's Hospital after leaving the office. A note was found beside the body. its contents were not released.
Bob Lee regional director of the Arthritis Foundation of Arkansas spoke at the Town and Country Kiwanis Club in Little Rock. Basil A. Smith accompanied him. Lee called arthritis the number one crippler and urged early diagnosis and treatment while noting 20 million Americans affected and 42 U.S. research centers.
The FBI reports a material witness, David Sky, held on $25,000 bond in the slayings of FBI agents Ronald Williams and Jack Coler on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Sky appeared before a Rapid City judge to testify this month, while a wake for 24 year old Josepth Bedell Stuntz continued as investigators seek 16 more suspects in the case.
Jack Meek Jr of Bradley announces sale of controlling interest in The Bank of Bradley to Lane Pierce of Memphis and Johnnie Hill of Springhill. Meek to stay on board. Pierce elected board president, resides in Bradley with wife Judith and three children. Flood in Friesland in 1228 killed over 100000.
