Legislators Draw Expense Money Under New Procedures
Arkansas lawmakers fast tracked weekly expense allowances in a 60 day session. Eighty six of one hundred House members filed vouchers for up to 140 dollars weekly with funds drawn under their own names. Senate participation was near universal, though two senators did not claim. Some payments covered a four day period while others were split across weeks. The reform followed past controversies over using relatives or ghost employees to access funds and aligns with stricter reporting rules introduced for the session.
