Senate and House leaders push a $90 million federal credit plan for farmers to finance 1933 crops, with the Agriculture Secretary allowed to require up to 30 percent production cuts. The measure, similar to last year, awaits President Hoover's signature.
The Star clarified that direct federal crop loans will proceed separately from Regional Credit Corporation loans. The credit body, backed by some federal funds, acts as a banking house using collateral beyond real estate, while federal loans use future crops as collateral.
Edward O Neal president of the American Farm Federation told the senate agriculture committee that without action for the American farmer there will be a revolution in the countryside within a year. He supported extending the domestic allotment relief bill to cover more commodities and add acreage restriction provisions.
Rumors place W M Greeson of Prescott or Dick Johnson of Ashdown as from southwestern counties likely appointee to the highway commission under Governor Futrell. Futrell delays naming until the reorganiza tion bill becomes law, probably February 1. The measure passed the Arkansas Senate 81 to 4 and moves into effect February 1. a budget control bill also clears the Senate.
Governor Futrell advised the joint roads and highways committee to begin immediate negotiations with bondholders of the old road district. He said a settlement is sought and if no agreement is possible, the legislature must protect the homes of the people.
In Los Angeles H J Mulharron aged 52 died from inhaling illuminating gas after a long struggle with insomnia. He was found dead in the bathroom with a small hose clenched between his teeth, the fatal dose apparently taken to secure sleep.
Tokyo reports a special cabinet session discussed the League of Nations conciliation failure in the Manchurian dispute. Foreign Minister Uchida warned delegates of an imminent grave decision as Japan expands operations into Jehol and asserts actions protect Japanese investments in Manchuria.
Firefighters used a bucket brigade to stop a Fulton blaze that damaged the Union church and Sam Arnold’s residence. Adjoining houses were saved. Hope department arrived after control. Loss partly covered by insurance.
The two mayoral candidates Boyett and Vesey led a four way field in a 906 vote first primary and will face off February 28 in the run-off. Aldermen R L Gosnell Luther Garner W A Lewis and Charles E Taylor were re elected in Ward 1 2 3 and 4 respectively along with Municipal Judge A A Gentry returned without opposition.
Superior Court Judge Niles dismissed a charge of accessory to murder against John J. Halloran a Phoenix lumberman once linked by Winnie Ruth Judd to disposing of the bodies of Agnes LeRoi and Hedvig Samuelson Judd who faces the death penalty admitted placing the bodies in the trunk under cross examination by Hallorans counsel The case highlights the longstanding trunk murder saga in Arizona.
The Hope Garden club votes its initial quarterly meeting at city hall at 7 30 Thursday night. George W. Ware of the Fruit and Truck experiment station will lecture on landscape gardening with demonstrations and a miniature house and lawn to show planting and after care. The club plans four evening meetings yearly and invites the public. TRINIDAD B W 1- The Trinidad Board of Film Censors bans two American movies about gang and newspaper life without giving reasons.
Mrs. Kate Stafford, noted food economist and lecturer, will open the Happy Kitchen School of Cookery Tuesday at 2 PM at the Saenger theater. The four day session invites women of the city and vicinity as a complement from the paper and advertisers.

Britain paid its December 15 installment but argues it should be credited against any revised total. Total foreign war debts to the United States run about 22 billion dollars.
Federal Judge E. Marvin Underwood dismissed Al Capone's petition for a writ of habeas corpus seeking release from the Atlanta penitentiary. Capone argued the statute of limitations ran against his 1926 to 1928 income tax conviction. He was sentenced to 10 years.
The burned 1929 Ford sedan believed stolen from Main Street near Belton was found in a ditch in Hempstead county. Police say it disappeared Friday night or early Saturday, with the last sighting at 11 pm Friday. The car was stripped and deliberately burned.
Berlin Bledsoe, arrested in Malvern then returned to Benton Ark. after escape from Saline County jail, faced charges of kidnapping two men at Hope and theft of a car from De Queen. He denied naming accomplices, but admitted involvement in several robberies since escape. A roll of dollar bills was found on him.
Police traced three gunmen and kidnapers led by Bledsoe to Malvern where they allegedly stole a car and abandoned another near Hollanda. Bledsoe was moved to Benton jail for hearings on the Malvern kidnapping and auto theft while Hope police hunted the two remaining suspects.
Miss Eleanor Foster of Hope Arkansas student at Lindenwood college sang two numbers in a Students Recital on Tuesday January 17. She performed Your Hand in Mine and Autumn Leaves and is a member of the college choir and Alpha Psi Omega. Foster is a leading sophomore class figure.
