The Civil Aeronautics Board denied Central Airlines a request for immediate service between Jonesboro Arkansas and a Memphis Little Rock route. City of Jonesboro Water and Light Plant and Airport Chamber of Commerce members joined the filing. Trans-Texas Airways Delta Air Lines and American Air Lines objected asserting insufficient service and alternatives.
Presidents chosen were Frank Vohler of Tort Smith, A. H. Rusher of Brinsley, George Benjamin of Little Rock and Mrs. Howard Miller of Murfreesboro.
Washington observers describe the tax cut debate as dizzying as President Eisenhower and Secretary Humphrey debate small business relief amid budget pressures. They note the administration advocates modest revenue loss while other officials resist large cuts, stressing careful spending and calls to reduce government outlays. Eisenhower and Humphrey both emphasize keeping budgets in line with public demand for services.
President Eisenhower’s second term aims for better US Russia ties, but officials say hopes fade. He stressed unity among free nations and equal strength to resist communism, noting Russian campaigns in Hungary and the Middle East. Russians voice worry over American power in the region and push propaganda of new colonialism.
