Arkansas Bank Board to decide on 4.5 percent deposit rate

Arkansas Bank Board will meet February 11 to decide if banks may pay 4.5 percent on ordinary savings deposits under a new federal rule. About 75 percent of contacting banks favor the increase from 4 to 4.5 percent. Ten Pulaski County banks ran full-page ads warning customers that banks will set individual rates if the board allows the rise. The meeting at the Highway Department Building is open to the public, with banks invited to send representatives. If the board rejects the increase, the matter ends.
