Supreme Court to review criminal case rulings
The Supreme Court agreed to hear cases challenging lower court rulings that overturned convictions in a California bank robbery and a Michigan murder, and to review a North Hempstead New York anti topless dancing ordinance for free expression issues. The court will also decide if housing cooperatives can be sued under federal securities laws. In the Michigan case Richard Berte Mosley’s murder conviction was overturned after police questioned him without warning him of his right to remain silent. He later admitted to the crimes after transfers between officers, and the state court reversed the conviction saying the right to remain silent cannot be bypassed by moving a suspect between authorities.
