Former Brinks guard faces court on bank larceny charge
Richard Rees a 27 year old ex Brinks guard known to police as a prolific thief is to be arraigned in federal court on bank larceny charges. He allegedly stole 500000 in cash from an armored car in California eleven months ago and fled with untraceable funds after delivering a champagne box to a girl. He was arrested in Villanueva New Mexico after a stakeout following a long flight through Texas Nevada and New Mexico. He left behind a wife an ex wife and a daughter and penned a 17 page letter to Herb Caen detailing his exploits. He had been sought since February 11 1976. He is described by police as perhaps the greatest ripoff artist of all time.
