Priceless Star of India Recovered From Miami Depot Locker

New York detectives and thief Allan Dale Kuhn retrieved the Star of India from a Miami Florida bus depot locker. The 100 carat DeLong ruby remained unrecovered and authorities value the gems as priceless despite a $400000 price tag for bookkeeping. Farm Group Plans Drive for Members

Hempstead County Farm Bureau’s board meeting set plans for a County Membership Committee meeting on Tuesday January 12 at 10 00 am and a county membership kickoff during Farm Bureau week February 18. Little Rock Buys 70 Acres for Port Authority

The city of Little Rock paid $75,000 for 70 acres in a bid to establish a port authority. Plans call for acquiring 1,200 to 1,400 more acres to build a multimillion dollar facility enabling inland shipping from the Gulf of Mexico to the St. Lawrence Seaway via the Arkansas River once navigable.

Hope High School and district schools provide entertainment for the March of Dimes Youth Radiothon at 9:25 AM January 9 on Radio Station KXAR. A two youth trip to Little Rock and two guests from Peyton Place will be auctioned. Bullet Wounds Prove Fatal in Hot Springs

Andrew J. Widener, 56, of Hot Springs, died after being shot four times near a downtown hotel. Ralph Whatley, 47, of Hot Springs, was charged with assault with intent to kill as police officer Darrell Daniels, off duty, arrested Whatley after he reported the shooting.

Man Guilty of Manslaughter in Conway Slaying

Fred Burns, 64, of Friend ship community, found guilty of manslaughter and given a two year suspended sentence for the shotgun death of his son in law Rondell Sturgeon, 31, of Conway, and Burns' 10 year old son James Hulen Burns, struck by a shot fired from outside the home. Burns had asked authorities to keep Sturgeon away from his property.

300 Expected at a Band Clinic Here

About 300 persons are expected in Hope Saturday for the Region 4 Junior High Band Clinic at Hope High School. Three bands from about 25 area schools rehearse all day and perform a free concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The bands include 90 honor students per band under guest conductors Wendy Evanson Texarkana, Bob Jordan Henderson State Teachers College, and Don Ledbetter Hot Springs. Hope High School director Richard Kyeton invites the public to attend.
