The U S Weather Bureau says Arkansas will stay cloudy but warm through Thursday with no rain. Temperatures through Thursday to mid 60s to low 70s, overnight lows 40s to mid 50s, with Tuesday highs from 63 at Fayetteville to 67 at Texarkana and overnight lows 43 at El Dorado to 56 at Texarkana.
Mrs. Oscar White 63 longtime Emmet resident died Tuesday in a Prescott hospital. Survived by two sons Cecil White of Emmet and Edward White of Hope. two daughters Mrs Harmon Jackson of Rosston and Mrs James Myres of Mealyville Mo. two stepchildren Mrs Ethel Williams of Bossier City La and Clifton White of Prescott. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Emmet Baptist Church. Burial in Snell Cemetery Emmet.
Weather Experiment Station records a 24 hour period ending at 7 am Wednesday with a high of 65 and a low of 35. Winds were light and variable with no notable precipitation reported.
The forecast calls for cloudy to partly cloudy skies and a bit warmer through Thursday. Tonight’s low will be in the 50s with Thursday’s high expected from 65 to 75. Continued on Page Two.
Pulaski County Quorum Court to be asked Monday to buy 20 voting machines and lease 200 more for the September school election. Pauline Hoeltzel seeks 36000 dollars for leasing 5500 dollars for insurance and maintenance for the Pulaski County Committee for Election Machines. Arkansas law allows voting machines though none are used in the state.
William E. Terry a 69 year old Little Rock insurance executive died at his home Tuesday. He was president of William E Terry and Co Inc and manager of the Underwriters Insurance Agency. He directed the National Association of Mutual Insurance Agents and held offices in the Arkansas Association of Mutual Insurance Agents as well as the Arkansas and National Association of Mortgage Bankers. He also served in numerous civic and professional roles.

Washington AP reports a bid to weaken the antifilibuster rule stalled as Republican Leader Everett Dirksen blocked immediate action. The dispute follows last year’s Southern filibuster against a wide civil rights bill, with opponents warning the change would ease limits on debate.
Public Health and Welfare Committee of the Arkansas Legislative Council voted against creating a new state air pollution control agency. Chairman Rev Raymond Mays of Cleveland County announced an air pollution bill for the 1965 session, with study planned in the House Health and Welfare Committee and input from interested parties. He noted President Johnson’s interest and warned federal action if stalled. The panel also approved Sen Joe Hurley’s bill to require protective glasses for students in shop courses, allowing districts to provide, rent, or require purchase.
Funeral services for Mrs. Paul Ward age 56 who died Sunday after a heart attack at church were held at 10 a m Wednesday at the Church of the Nazarene. Burial followed in Delight Cemetery. Survivors include her mother Mrs Dora L Forshee of Glenwood four sisters including Mrs Roy Chance of Hope and a brother. Oakcrest funeral home in charge of arrangements.
The Hempstead County Farm Bureau will hold its regular monthly board meeting at the Farm Bureau office on West 4th Street Thursday night January 7 at 7 30 p m. President Lester Kent says plans will be made for the annual membership kick off meeting. Mr and Mrs Kent will show slides of the National Convention in Philadelphia during December and urge all members to attend.
The Hempstead County Bar Association elected Talbot Feild Jr as President, John L. Wilson as Vice-President, and D C Crow as Secretary-Treasurer for 1965. The group discussed a peace officers training school and new Sixth District rules, and set dates to meet March 2 while skipping February 2 to attend the Southeast Arkansas Bar Association in Prescott.
State Senator elect Jim Brandon urged Arkansas to fund a constitutional convention from a $14 million windfall if a state income tax withholding system is adopted. He criticized Gov Faubus as confused while arguing the convention is inevitable to fix the antiquated constitution.

Arkansas Commerce Commission refused Tuesday to allow St. Louis Southwestern Railway to close its Kingsland agency in Cleveland County. The panel also denied Missouri Pacific Lines’ request to consolidate agency stations at Paris and Clarksville.
In Cuthbert Georgia a 21 year old Harvey Foy Henderson and 22 year old Bobby Shellhouse were installing an extra fire escape at Andrew College. Shellhouse attempted to move a ladder from their platform when Henderson warned it could reach a 7200 volt power line and electrocuted Shellhouse.
Dun and Bradstreet figures show Hempstead County rising from 268 to 284 listed businesses in 1964 ties, a five percent gain. Hope listings climb from 226 to 241 in the same period, a six percent increase.
