Voter turnout among 18 to 21 year olds in 1972
Census Bureau reports 5.3 million youths aged 18 to 21 voted in the 1972 presidential election, 48.3 percent of those eligible, while 45 to 64 year olds showed a 71 percent turnout. Overall turnout was 63 percent of 132.3 million eligible, down from 67.8 percent in 1968. The lower voting age to 18 went into effect for 1972.

Mills plans review of IRC tax reform this summer
WASHINGTON AP Wilbur Mills chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee will lead a sweeping review of the Internal Revenue Code with a tax reform bill planned for summer consideration. He cautioned against expecting large revenue gains or broad tax cuts, saying reform may offset losses elsewhere and the nation cannot afford a big tax cut now. He aims to start hearings by late January or early February and extend about six weeks, targeting areas like estate and gift taxes, capital gains, and minimum tax. Municipal bonds and foreign corporate tax rules may also be examined.
