Scout Troops 58 and 90 Hold Meetings and Plan Activities

Scout Troop 58 held a Thursday lecture by Paul Klipsch on rifle safety and field ethics. Regwar weekly session opened with a rededication to the scout path, led by Bobby Martin, under the direction of Scoutmasters Jimmy Miller and John Bagby. Field Executive Hickman led the benediction. Troop 58 meets Thursdays at Hope Presbyterian Church. Scout Troop 90 of First Baptist Church, Hope, meets tonight at 7 in the Educational Building. Scoutmaster Floyd Osborn announced rechartering begins tonight and new members may join as the troop expands. Tonight, planning for anniversary week Feb 6 to 12 proceeds. The Scout 90 committee and field executive held a charter review last Friday at the church, with Chairman Ben Owen guiding progress and year-ahead planning.

Jerusalem Bombed by Unidentified Planes Threatens Jewish Retaliation

Reports from Jerusalem describe two raids on the Jewish quarter with at least five injured and air raid alerts lasting about 25 minutes. An Israeli spokesman warned that if Egypt is behind the attack, retaliation on Cairo is possible. An Egyptian communiqué claimed reconnaissance raids and continued fighting in the Negev amid exchanges with Israeli forces.

W. F. Shields Dies at Home Near Nashville

W. P. Shields, 88, died late Saturday at his home near Nashville. He is survived by his wife. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bluff Springs, near Nashville.

Queen Mary to sail for New York after harbor damage

Cunard White Star officials said the 8,235 ton liner Queen Mary will sail for New York at 1:30 p m local time tomorrow after running aground near Cherbourg. Six tugs pulled her free at high tide and Capt H Grattridge was on his first voyage as master.

Hope Fades for 30 Aboard Missing Charter DC-4

Miami search officials announced no survivors expected from a charter DC-4 that disappeared last week near Miami with 40 aboard. Coast guard, port authorities and airline crews pressed on, but officials said the vessel likely sank in the ocean and remains a tomb for those aboard.

Borne Transport Co Loss Prompts Four-Day Search

Borne Transport Co of New York vanished with 27 Puerto Rican passengers and a three-man crew after going down early December 23. An intensive sea and air search lasted four days without locating the vessel or survivors.
