Supreme Court takes up ad issue in controversial broadcasts
The Supreme Court will hear appeals on whether radio and TV stations must sell time for paid editorial ads on public issues. The FCC and broadcasters contend they are not required to offer ads, while the case centers on upholding access under the fairness doctrine. Justice Douglas dissented on denying a stay. The FCC previously ordered guidelines pending final decision.
