In Los Angeles AP report Anthony Russo hails a federal judge's decision acquitting Russo and Daniel Elisberg on one espionage count each in the Pentagon Papers case. Judge Matt Byrne kept 13 counts, abeyed two involving Thai, and set defense case to begin.
Attorney General Kleindienst warned James R Hoffa he must abide by the conditional commutation or face swift enforcement. Hoffa, freed from prison with government support in 1971, reportedly planned to reclaim leadership of his Detroit local and eyed a path to regain the national Teamsters presidency.
