Arkansas Senate blocks four Rockefeler appointees
The Arkansas Senate refused to confirm four of Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller's appointees to state boards, including James Hurley of Springdale to the Aeronautics Commission, over lease disputes. Rejections also targeted Hot Springs nominees Jack Drabena, A. A. Albinson, and Ross Wiseley for various posts, while G. W. Whitey Tyler and Arthur Hays were confirmed to Commerce and Labor posts respectively. The House approved a tort-liability repeal with subdi vision immunity and motor vehicle liability insurance for political subdivisions, and reconsidered a bill letting annexed areas vote on incorporation.

Battleship New Jersey May Be Put Into Mothballs
The battleship New Jersey and its Vietnam era mission may be retired if the war ends soon. Navy officers say there is no remaining need for such a ship and note more efficient vessels can perform escort and amphibious support roles. The 54,000-ton vessel, built after World War II, was recalled from reserve in 1967 to counter North Vietnamese air losses.
