In Cincinnati a federal judge ruled a woman on trial for transporting falsely made security will have to bare her upper thighs and buttocks to help establish her real identity. Judge David S. Porter said a female U.S. marshal staffer would examine the defendant, Betty Peters, 36, citing a substantial scar as identifying feature, with a female photographer to take the pictures.
A flash blaze at a Fifth Avenue office building killed nine people and left seven others critically burned. Most victims were trapped on the third floor of 48th Street near Rockefeller Center as flames hampered egress. Fire officials found two gallon cans of a flammable liquid on the third floor.

Hope High School senior Tim Ross won the Future of America public speaking contest for Area F1 held at Hope High School with his topic Help on agriculture in a supposedly free society. Thirteen schools entered. district finals are March 8 at Red River Vocational Technical I in Prescott. Yerger and Hope high teams tied for second. Yerger’s coaches were Arthur Maxwell and others.
