The Arkansas house education committee disapproved Senate Bill 300 which would shift funds from county supervisor salaries to the agricultural experiment stations and Extension Service. Rep Nyberg argued it robs Peter to pay Paul and urged restoration to the common school fund. other lawmakers urged rejection and noted the aim for unified support for the university medical school and experiment stations through economies.
A bill to submit repealing the 18th amendment to a July 16 state election passed the Arkansas House 45 to 39 and goes to the Senate. Delegates elected in July would meet August 1 to ratify or reject the proposed 21st federal amendment, with 135 delegates elected like the Legislature.

Anna Dawkins longtime city resident died at her East Second Street home Saturday morning at 7 20. She had been an invalid for several years and is survived by three children Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Caldwell of Little Rock and Miss Ester Dawkins of Hope. Funeral services will be held at her East Second Street home Sunday morning with Rev. Wallace R. Rogers of First Baptist Church officiating.
Three bandits robbed the First National Bank, escaping with 24000 dollars. A witness elevator operator fainted after being warned to stay silent, sparking rumors of target practice and a liquor arrest spree as investigators chased leads across Lone Pine settlement and Rosston. Sheriff Duty received three arrested for liquor. Noted connections tied bandit leader Charley Chapman to prior bootlegging.
The Japanese military says the big Jehol offensive began Saturday and has intensified to three fronts. Chaoyang fell with air bombs, and advances continued toward Jehol city. A new push was reported between Changwu and Switung as Gailu was said to be occupied without opposition.
Three Fulton negroes were identified as the bandits in a Monday bridge robbery. Toll collector L. E. Quinn, kidnapped and driven two miles, identified two suspects. a written confession from the third tied all three to the crime. They were taken to Texarkana jail.
The Hempstead county girls basketball tournament began Saturday at the armory on South Walnut Street with nine teams. The winner advances to the District No. 10 meet in Ashdown on March 3 and 4. Strong teams include Blevins Saratoga and Columbus. Henry Yocum and Carl Gilbert named referees. Games listed pairings Guernsey vs Blevins Saratoga vs Rocky Mound DeAnn vs Fulton Patmos vs Columbus Spring Hill draws a bye and will face the Blevins Guernsey winner.
Texarkana reports three men tied to the Hope bank robbery abandoned a car two miles north of the city after two miles of pursuit. Officers fired at the fleeing trio, who escaped on foot. Sheriff Turquette says identities are known and arrests are expected soon.
