The Arkansas all time record is Feb. 5 1974 by C. H. Wilson of Fulton. Martins’ arrival dates are unreliable weatherwise and not a predictor of spring.

Artillery shell kills teenager at Huguenot Academy
A 40 millimeter artillery shell exploded in a Huguenot Academy industrial arts room at about 9 am killing 15 year old Scott Goodman and injuring five others. A few students were nearby when a boy tried to fashion the shell into an ashtray and it detonated.
