Faubus says antiriot plan not moving troopers to Pine Bluff

Faubus and State Police leader Maj Mack Thompson described the anti riot plan as alert rather than deployment. Thompson said troopers were alerted 430 to 500 pm Thursday but denied moving forces to Pine Bluff. He noted 12 patrol cars were in town for a Southeast Arkansas officers meeting even as reports swirled of possible trooper arrivals and new anti segregation demonstrations.

Three Fired by Arkansas Tech Board

RUSSELLVILLE Ark AP The Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees voted to not renew contracts of three instructors Donald St Clair philosophy Jim Cocke science and geology and Clarence Henderson history. A student petition movement seeks reasons for the action while board members and Hull offered few comments on hearings or potential resignations by others who would leave if the fired instructors were removed.

Café arrests involve Dick Gregory and others in city protest

Police detained 42 integrationists including Dick Gregory and civil rights figure William Hansen at a cafe this week. Ray Watson, owner of Ray's Truckers Inn, said the cafe opened at 2 am and he refused service to Black patrons, prompting intermittent picketing since Monday.
