HOPE Federation of Garden Clubs started the Redbud Trail beautification with trees planted on City Hall lawn. Planned plantings cover public grounds by Saturday noon including Junior and Senior High, nursing homes, Paisley and Brookwood Schools, the Library, and City Hall. Civil clubs join the effort. trees will line major highways into town and residents are urged to plant redbuds.

Fire Destroys Bruner Ivory Charcoal Plant
A fire at Bruner Ivory Handle Co. charcoal plant last night caused extensive damage with the entire summer stock and packing destroyed. Firemen fought the blaze from about 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. with the ruins still smouldering, hampered by trains blocking access. Manager T. C. Crawford said only three workers were involved and the main plant was spared. He urged the city to pressure the railroad to authorize an underpass or fire department substation near the tracks.

Heart Sunday Officially Starts Today
Hempstead County launches its 1965 Heart Sunday volunteer drive beginning today and running through Sunday.
