Restoration of Historic Mexican Congress Hall in Chilpancingo
The old meeting hall of Mexico’s first congress in Chilpancingo Guerrero is being restored after 28 years of semi ruin. Catholic residents funded the work on the parochial church where rebels met on September 14 1813 and proclaimed independence on November 6 the same year. Restoration marks greater tolerance by the state toward the Catholic church as bells in the church tower are prepared for installation. Sr Augustin M Diaz signs invitations for ceremonies. Annapolis history note: Puritan exiles named it in 1654 after Princess Anne.
