Auto Club challenges Faubus claim over highway bond plan

Arkansas Automobile Club rebutted Gov. Orval Faubus assertion that the $150 million highway bond proposal misleads the public. Frank M. Potter said the club used the Highway Use Study figures to show counties could owe more in repayment than they would gain, stressing the distribution was derived from Faubus office data.

Damage Suits Involve Local Firm

Two large damage suits filed in Arkansas Federal Court name H E Wright Construction Co. in Hempstead County. Ella Ree Garner and Howard Garner seek 125000 for injuries when a ceiling fell at Delight Egg Land building. Wood Lam Inc. denies liability and Wright sues Wood Lam for any judgment against it. A separate suit by T S Arnold as administrator seeks 37000 for the death of Susie B Thornton in a crash with East Texas Motor Freight Lines.

Fire damages two homes in city blaze

City firemen fought two house fires yesterday causing heavy damage. Charles Shepard’s Short Shower Street residence suffered two rooms burned from an undetermined origin. At 608 North Walnut Nero Jackson’s home, blocked by a rail crossing, was destroyed. Fire Chief James Cobb provided details.

Bull Testing Study Day Set at Southwest Branch Station

A Bull Test Study Day will be held at the Southwest Branch Experiment Station in Hope on February 18. Forty bulls finishing a 140 day feed test will be shown, with researchers including Cecil Bittle and Dr. J. C. Brown discussing results. Visitors may tour the station and view pasture plots. sales will be direct with buyers, not via auction. Bulls include 12 Herefords 10 Santa Gertrudis 9 Angus 7 Shorthorn and 2 Polled Herefords. Average daily gain is 2.65 pounds with six bulls over three pounds at final weigh day.

Prescott Line Authorized for 13 800-Volt Link

The state Public Service Commission approved 3.47 miles of a 13 800-volt distribution line from Prescott to the Prescott pumping station and treatment plant. Arkansas Power & Light Co was authorized to spend about $25 100 on the project.
