Malagasy military rulers accuse a mobile police group of assassinating President Ratsimandrava as his limousine was attacked on a city road. Martial law and a curfew are declared while troops surround the Antanimora camp and tensions rise with tribal factions on the island off the southeast African coast.
February 14 marks Music Man Day in Hope as the Centennial group brings Meredith Willson’s musical to town on February 28 and March 1 to celebrate the city’s 100th birthday. Local chorus members praise rehearsals, with songs like 76 Trombones and Till There Was You. Tickets cost $3 for a two hour show at the refurnished city hall auditorium. specify Friday or Saturday as only Friday and Saturday tickets are issued.
