Temperature drop expected Wednesday

A slow moving cold front moved out of Arkansas early today and cooler air was pushing in behind it. Rain ended in Arkansas with the passage of the front though isolated patches of drizzle remained in the mountains and northeast. Clouds were forecast to remain until late today and temperatures should not reach much.

Hope Leo Club presented an enucleation kit to Hempstead County Memorial Hospital via Paul Choate, enabling eye harvesting for donors. Mike Barnes announced the donation after fundraising with the Arkansas Eye and Kidney Bank in Little Rock. Dr. Lowell Harris will perform enucleations when donors’ consent is on file.

Bomb blast wounds 11 in New York City arrivals building

Woman wounds Camden man in alleged food stamp dispute

Jes sie Wood 61 administrator of the Camden Social Services office was stabbed Monday afternoon during an altercation with a woman seeking food stamps. Wood was treated and released from a local hospital. Police said a suspect in custody would be charged with assault with intent to kill.

Maid of Cotton finalists chosen in Memphis contest

In Memphis finalists from 16 states compete to be named the 1976 Maid of Cotton. Entrants include Jane Fortenberry of Columbia Mississippi and Sue Groessema of Piru California, with Kathryn Tenkhoff of Sikeston Missouri to crown the winner. The new Maid will travel as the industry ambassador and attend the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Trial date set for pair in LaPlace robbery case

HOUMA La AP Two men Leonard Washington and Stanley Johnson face trial February 23 in Houma for the October 1974 armed robbery of a LaPlace supermarket. Judge Bourg denied suppression of evidence from lineups and ordered consolidation of charges. They also face May 7 murders of a priest a nun and the housekeeper.
