Must Defend Laws He Has Criticized

Washington (AP) As secretary of labor Arthur J. Goldberg will administer laws he has condemned as unfair to unions and has sought to repeal. He has criticized the Landrum-Griffin and Taft Hartley Acts, saying they curtailed union rights and delayed dispute settlements. He supported the Democratic platform favoring repeal of right to work provisions and improvement of Railroad Retirement and Unemployment Insurance. The 1959 Landrum-Griffin Act arose from probes of corrupt labor practices and seeks union accountability. The Taft-Hartley Act of 1947 created a new labor code replacing the Wagner Act. New York City's Bowling Green, dating to 1732, was once a parade ground and market before becoming a public park.
