The National Weather Service forecasts relief from the cold with dry conditions and a warmup across Arkansas. Friday highs are expected in the 50s to 60s, with weekend lows in the 30s to 40s. Temperatures should not rise above freezing today in parts of the state.

Funeral services were held for Varl B. May, 67, at Bodcaw No. 2 Baptist Church with burial in Union cemetery. He died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by wife Pauline, son James, four brothers, two sisters, and one grandchild.
