Riad Ghali, 56, shot his wife Fathia Ghali, 45, in West Los Angeles then shot himself. She died from head and face wounds. Ghali was hospitalized with a head wound and later transferred to jail ward. The couple had separated seven years. bankruptcy and financial strain followed years of luxury.
Hope Police report three juvenile shoplifters were arrested over the weekend, with two taken Sunday and one Saturday. Four traffic accidents were investigated: a brakes failure collision on East Third Street injuring none, a two-car wreck on Third Street with minor injuries, a yield-right-of-way citation for a Sunday incident, and a Monday rear-end collision leading to driver license charges for Donald Franks and Fleet Tire Service for unlicensed operation.
The Supreme Court refused to review James Earl Ray's bid to withdraw his guilty plea for the Martin Luther King Jr assassination. Ray contends he was framed by the FBI and police and coerced by his attorney to plead guilty. He remains imprisoned in Tennessee serving a life sentence.
