Two Refugees Seek Asylum On U S Bound Freighter
Two 22 year old Chinese refugees from Canton sought political asylum in the United States after meeting with immigration officials in Kobe Japan. The men Liang Kwockjiang and Wang Chew were aboard the freighter Thomas E Cuffe which docked in Kobe eight days after their sanctuary request in Hong Kong harbor. They will not be allowed to land in Japan and will be placed under surveillance as the ship proceeds to Los Angeles.
