Martha Mitchell cites reason for striking daughter

New York AP Martha Mitchell told CBS reporter Trish Reilly she struck her 13 year old daughter after the girl refused to leave school and return home. Mitchell, who has accused her estranged husband Gen John Mitchell of poisoning their daughter's mind, was accompanied by Reilly to Sacred Heart Convent School in Greenwich Connecticut on Wednesday.

Kidnapped boy found. FBI arrests suspect in Florida

In Newark New Jersey an FBI announcement said 23 year old Thomas V Burns was arrested at a Miami Beach Holiday Inn for kidnapping a 7 year old boy on September 23. The child was found unharmed and no ransom was sought.

Hostages freed after 26 hour Walpole prison standoff

Eight inmates released two Walpole State Prison guards and a medic unharmed after a 26 hour siege. Bargaining led to the hostages’ freedom while corrections officials and state officials faced demands for educational programs, guards’ harassment claims, segregation prisoner releases, and amnesty. The case involved FBI and state authorities, with one inmate seeking amnesty and another case moving toward arraignment in Miami. Over 750 agricultural educators joined 10 000 vocational education in New Orleans for their convention December 6 11. The 26th National Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association convention ran with the American Vocational Association. Troy W Buck Hope High School vocational agri teacher was an Arkansas delegate. Kalispell Air Force Station Montana is new assignment for Air Force Staff Sergeant Gerald W Sisson son of Mr and Mrs W E Sisson Hope. Sergeant Sisson a recreation specialist was reassigned from Cape Newenham Alaska to the 716th Radar Squadron. He is a 1966 Hope High School graduate. His wife Sarah is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jessie J Brown Rt 2 Springhill Arkansas. Marine Cpl Lowell M Harvin son of Mrs Ruby Harvin Genoa Arkansas was promoted while serving at New River Marine Corps Air Station Jacksonville NC. People may apply for a Christmas basket by using a form at the Hope Chamber of Commerce, mail to the address on the form, and return by December 16. Baskets delivered December 21 and 23. Mrs Sue Delaney, Hope school food service director, was selected as one of two candidates for State president of the Arkansas School Food Service Association for 1975. Forty one University of Arkansas students joined Alpha Beta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, including Sara Elizabeth Sanders of Mineral Springs. An open house is set Sunday 2 4 p.m. at Hope High School to view the new library and counseling offices. A bid of 67 595 was awarded to Triad Contractors Texarkana for a Red River Vo Tech addition housing industrial equipment maintenance and air conditioning refrigeration.

Boston schools close after high school violence outbreak

In Boston, officials shut all area schools for the rest of the week after a violent clash outside South Boston High School that left eleven officers and at least five civilians injured by bricks and stones. A 17 year old white student was stabbed. a Black youth was arrested. About 600 white students walked out of Roslindale High, and Hyde Park High remained tense with walkout threats. Attendance dipped to 75.6 percent.

Body of Jacksonville man found in auto trunk

Richard Dale Tibbs a 20 year old Jacksonville resident was found dead in the trunk of a rental car at a local lumber yard after an apparent shooting. Police linked the discovery to a Central Flying Service robbery where another employee Ray Banks was tied and found unharmed. A suspect, a 22 year old Little Rock woman Carlie Beatrice McClendon, faces murder and armed robbery charges and another suspect is being sought.

Charges to be filed in boy's death near Springdale

In SPRINGDALE Arkansas charges are expected today in the shooting death of Delbert Hendrix about 10 at his home. His father George Hendrix 38 was wounded in the face by a shotgun blast and taken to a hospital in critical condition. Both victims were shot at close range.
