Arkansas Friday Weather Likely Clear and Colder

A cold front moves into Arkansas tonight and should clear the state by Friday noon. Southerly winds continue but moisture remains scarce, so no widespread rain is expected though scattered showers may occur as the front passes. The front is already moving toward Missouri and Kansas this morning.

Earl E. Smith 74 died Tuesday morning at a Prescott hospital where he lived. Native of Nevada County he worked as a steam pipefitter. Survivors include wife Esther Jobe Smith Pittsburgh daughter Mrs. George Shaw brothers Milton and Herbert sister Pearl Vandiver granddaughter Deborah Susan Shaw. Funeral 10 a.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church with Revs. East and Thomason officiating. Burial in Caney cemetery by Cornish Mortuary.

Ford may cut short Christmas ski vacation

President Ford may shorten his planned Christmas ski vacation in Vail Colorado from December 23 to 29 due to unresolved tax cut and spending issues with Congress. White House aides say he originally planned at least two weeks, but a final tax bill extending reductions may pass next week, which he is expected to veto if it breaks his spending cap.
