Roger Dean Mosby 23 of Redfield was convicted of first degree murder for the stabbing death of taxi driver Ronald Lovelace 21 of Little Rock whose body was found June 10 1968 in Grant County. Sentencing set for 2 p.m. Friday after a 49 minute jury deliberation. The widow Bernita Lovelace cried out in court and was removed. defense request for mistrial denied.

Nixon seeks amendments to satisfy concerns while leaders anticipate a conference with the House and a potential veto on key provisions. The bill aims to provide a record Social Security increase and broad tax relief while subject to negotiation.
Prosecutor Oliver Adams filed a first degree murder charge against Ada Wiser, 38, of Green Forest, for killing 14 year old Jimmie Lou Roe in her home while attempting to rape the girl's mother, Louetta Roe. The mother was wounded and in satisfactory condition in a Harrison hospital. Wiser is in custody.
Probers remain unconvinced about the My Lai massacre as Captain Ernest Medina says he did not order or see the killings though noting a possibility it occurred. Army reports estimate 100 to 600 civilians died on March 16 1968 and Lt. Calley faces murder charges for 109 deaths. House committee chair Mendel Rivers says helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson Jr did not provide testimony to support any such report.
Archie Cox aged 54 of Rt 4 Hope suffered a badly mangled left hand when his hand was caught in machinery at Wynnewood Products Co. plant in the Proving Ground. Cox was rushed by a Herndon Funeral ambulance to a local hospital and then to a Texarkana specialist for treatment.

The Rev L C Keys 65 a Texarkana Ark pastor of Walker Chapel CME was shot through the heart while deer hunting near McNab about 930 am Thursday. Sheriff Jimmie Griffin said the shooting appeared accidental in a party of five men all white. Keys had been a longtime member of the Texarkana hunting group. Willie Beckham of Texarkana was on stand beside Keys and may have fired the fatal shot. Hempstead Coroner J T Honeycutt ruled the death accidental.
SLM XVIII, Ark. (AP) A Circuit Court jury deliberated over four hours Wednesday in convicting Billy Mayfield, 29, of Harrison, of second degree murder in the July 14 shooting death of Carroll County Sheriff Orval Bishop. The jury did not agree on a penalty, and Judge William Enfield set sentencing for 9 a.m. Tuesday and a Friday hearing on a bond request for Mayfield.
Eddie McCoy 65 of North Little Rock was charged with murder in the Tuesday shooting death of Haz el Brewer 55 at McCoy residence a .22 caliber pistol was recovered. Police said. Also notes broader Federal Reserve inflation debate with dissenting directors Maisel and Mitchell clashing with Budget Director Mayo over policy.
Rep. Hammerschmidt said the Farmers Home Administration approved a 75000 loan and a 68000 grant to Damascus in Van Buren County to fund a water treatment plant and related facilities. The package includes a 60000 gallon water tank and a pipeline to serve more than 499 residents.
Newark mayor Hugh J Addontzio faced court pressure to answer federal grand jury questions as Atty Gen John Mitchell warned of mass indictments targeting public officials in a New Jersey crime probe. Mitchell tied a Cosa Nostra control to many internal revenue agents and predicted indictments within 10 days, naming no issuing body. The Newark grand jury probe, once an Essex County operation, was taken over by federal authorities shortly before his Boca Raton speech.
Secretary Robert H. Finch of HEW orders a sweeping overhaul of the FDA. Dr Charles C Edwards will be named new FDA chief as Ley Jr and top aides are ousted. The agency regains autonomy, reduces bureaus from six to three, and shifts to product line organization. Dr Edwards is a former Iowa surgeon and AMA official.
AP reports a South Korea airliner with one aboard is missing and believed hijacked to North Korea. Airline officials say all aboard are believed Korean as the search continues. The item appears in a digest with other brief world notes.
Nine residents spoke out against proposed discontinuance of the Texas and Pacific passenger service between Texarkana and Laredo at a Texas Railroad Commission hearing. The 585 mile route links to Mexico City and connects in Texarkana with a Missouri Pacific Lines train to St. Louis. Officials say the line has not yielded profit for over 23 years while declines in passenger numbers and mail and express shipments moved to other transport.
Shirley Fill, about 45, of Lake Village was fatally wounded Wednesday while deer hunting near Hamburg, according to police. The incident occurred during a hunting trip and details remain under investigation.
A diverse town calendar lists a variety show at Verger Junior High auditorium on Thursday at 7 p m. Hope residents Don Williams and Mike May of Hope join the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in El Dorado on December 8 and Camden on December 9. Ken McMillan from Hope appears in two melodramas at Southern State College Theater. The Southern State College Choral Society will perform the Messiah on December 14 at 3 p m in the gym, with Lloyd Powell of Hope set to sing. Byron Smiley of Hope named Allied Telephone personal manager for employment benefit programs and training, while H R Wise bourn notes his duties across Allied's state territory. The Hope Athletic Booster Club meets tonight at 7 30 in the High School Science Building to discuss business and review a new weightlifting machine.
U S officials debate keeping 20 000 to 40 000 American troops in South Vietnam to train and advise Vietnamese forces. Defense Secretary Melvin Laird testifies privately that counts may be in the low tens of thousands. If an agreement on troop withdrawal is reached Hanoi may prompt a broader pullout by 1970, with remaining forces to support air and artillery functions into 1972.
Hanoi's chief delegate Xuan Thuy boycotted a session of the Paris peace talks to protest what a North Vietnamese spokesman called the U S downgrading of negotiations. Ha Van Lau attended in his place as Thuy sought a replacement for Ambassador Lodge. The spokesman said Thuy's boycott duration was uncertain and noted Viet Cong criticism of Nixon's Vietnamization plan.
