Faubus outlines bound road program and funding plan

Gov Faubus defends a pay as you go and bonded road program. He argues revenues from new roads will fund the plan, estimates 90 million in bonds for state roads and 30 million each for counties and cities. Construction would be city and county initiated and then approved by the Highway Department. He plans an opinion survey and expects a vote likely in February after legislative action.

Painted Room Illness at W.8 Peirce School

Thirteen elementary pupils and their teacher fell ill in a freshly painted classroom at W.8 Peirce School in Philadelphia. They were treated at Graduate Hospital and released. A doctor blamed about five percent from paint fumes and ninety five percent psychological factors for the illness.
