Arkansas Public Service Commissioner Opposes Rate Plan
Washington AP reports Robert C. Downie of Little Rock, a member of the Arkansas Public Service Commission, urged the Senate Commerce Committee that interstate toll cuts under FCC-AT&T would push local rates up. He warned Arkansas could see big rate requests from about 45 independent local lines and urged shifting costs to bolster in-state service. Downie urged regulatory balance to protect average consumers while noting potential national impacts on local service funding. He compared the cost impact to a six cent note against rising local bills.
